The liquid inside the heat pipes vaporizes as it is heated and the vapor rapidly rises to the condenser (top), releasing the latent heat, and condenses to form a liquid and returns to the pipe bottom where it evaporates once more and repeats the cycle. A manifold on the top of the solar collector allows a working fluid (typically anti-freeze) to absorb the heat from the top of each heat pipe.
